Midori will once again teach a group of young people in Weimar at this year’s master classes. The 61st edition of the Weimar master classes will take place between 23 and 31 July 2021 at the Hochschule Für Musik FRANZ LISZT and will include individual lessons, orchestra studio and participant concerts at the end of the course.

Die Kennedy Center Honors werden jedes Jahr vom Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., eines der größten und wichtigsten kulturellen Zentren der USA, an herausragende Künstlerinnen und Künstler verliehen. In diesem Jahr wurden Midori sowie die Sängerin Joan Baez, der Country-Musiker Garth Brooks, die Tänzerin, Choreografin und Schauspielerin Debbie Allen und der Schauspieler Dick Van Dyke ausgezeichnet. Dazu wurden die Honorees in das Weiße Haus eingeladen und trafen den Präsidenten Joe Biden, bei einer Veranstaltung für die Presse mit Fragen und Antworten wurden sie vorgestellt und es wurden zwei Konzerte zu ihren Ehren veranstaltet. Midori took part in several events that made up the 43rd Kennedy Center Honors over the week of May 17, 2021. The annual celebration of awards for lifetime achievement in the arts was postponed from its usual early December date and restructured due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Taped excerpts are being assembled in a two-hour primetime special to be broadcast on CBS television on June 6th. Midori is one of five honorees, joining singer Joan Baez, country musician Garth Brooks, dancer-choreographer-actor Debbie Allen and actor Dick Van Dyke. Da der “normale” Konzertbetrieb aufgrund der Covid-19-Pandemie auf Eis liegt, hat Midori sich an aktuelle und frühere PiP-Stipendiaten (Partners in Performance) – sozusagen Mitglieder der PiP-Familie – mit einem Angebot für virtuelle Veranstaltungen für ihre Abonnenten und Ticketinhaber gewandt. Zu diesen Veranstaltungen gehörten ein virtuelles Recital mit der Pianistin Ieva Jokubaviciute (ein vorab aufgezeichnetes Video mit Sonaten von Grieg und Franck, teilweise gefolgt von einer Live-Fragenrunde), Live-Präsentationen mit anschließender Fragenrunde, Meisterklassen und Workshops zum Thema Inklusion/Advocacy (Live-Präsentationen von Midori, gefolgt von offenen Diskussionen mit Podiumsgästen und Teilnehmern).
